A man fell from the 20th floor of Harveys Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino on Saturday and is believed to have died by suicide, as stated by a Nevada sheriff. 

The individual was recognized as Daniel Tovar, 31, from Pomona, Calif., according to Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley on Monday. Coverley also informed Reno TV station KRNV that the fall was probably a suicide. 

Tovar was pronounced deceased at 2:50 p.m. Saturday after sustaining deadly injuries from the fall at the Stateline, Nev. gaming facility. 

His body fell close to the valet entrance of the casino. He was subsequently recognized through fingerprints and DNA, as reported by the Tahoe Daily Tribune. 

Tovar had boarded a bus from Los Angeles to Stateline earlier that Saturday. 

Officials did not disclose a cause for the suicide.

Illegal Betting Operation in Florida Raided 

On Monday, three individuals were apprehended in Tampa, Fla., following a police raid on an illegal gambling operation the previous day. 

The raid on Sunday resulted in the confiscation of computers, gambling records, over $12K in cash, and a semi-automatic handgun. 

The gaming den operated at All Stars Tampa Domino Club, authorities disclosed. 

Officers from the Tampa Police Department were first alerted to the illegal gambling operation in December 2023. Covert agents monitored the gambling establishment. 

According to the police, visitors to the establishment generally remained for three minutes and left with paper receipts. 

The covert detectives infiltrated the establishment and placed six wagers on sports competitions. The list featured an NBA game between the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors. 

Investigators provided proof to municipal prosecutors who successfully obtained a judge's approval for a search warrant. 

The individuals accused were recognized as Marcelino Perez, 67; Charlie Parilla, 32; and Kendrick Franklin, 29. 

Perez faced charges for one count of conspiracy to engage in bookmaking, one count of violating RICO, and one count related to being an agent or employee in the operation of a gambling house. 

Franklin faced two charges for betting on the outcomes of trials or contests of skill, a charge for bookmaking, a count for violating RICO, and another for being an agent or employee operating a gambling house. 

Parilla faced four charges for wagering on the outcomes of a skill contest, one count of bookmaking, a charge for RICO violation, and another count for being an agent or employee maintaining a gambling house. 

The three males showed up in court on Monday. Bail amounts were established at $52,650 for Perez, $57,650 for Franklin, and $62,650 for Parilla.

"This is more than just sports betting,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement quoted by Tampa Bay TV station WTVT. “This is an illegal business that was set up.”

“The success of this [police] operation is a testament to the tireless work and attention to detail shown by our officers,” Bercaw added. “To anyone thinking about running an illegal gambling operation in Tampa, consider this [is] your warning.”
